Luxe Daily Interview

May 23, 2018 / 3239
Rudi Repenning Gives New Life To Reclaimed Wood ART + CULTURE | BY MONIQUE MCINTOSH | April 25, 2018 | PHOTOS: MARY BETH KOETH Scandinavian sleekness goes to the tropics in the furniture designs of Miami-based Rudi Repenning. Inspired by the rich textures of reclaimed local wood, the Swedish-born designer blends neat, geometric lines with exposed, weathered surfaces. “I like to show the impressions of time on these boards–the nail holes, the chipped paint, the kind of marks that collect over the years,” says Repenning. We spoke with the designer about cultivating inspiration in the studio, and always greeting the sunrise in style. Read Full...

AGAINST THE GRAIN

March 6, 2018 / 3129
A Luxe Magazine interview with Rudi Repenning. A SWEDISH-BORN FURNITURE DESIGNER CARVES OUT A NEW AESTHETIC INSPIRED BY THE ORGANIC INTRICACIES OF SALVAGED WOOD. WRITTEN BY MONIQUE MCINTOSH / PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARY BETH KOETH Excerpt from the article: Foraging through piles of old, ripped lumber by the roadside may seem like the last place one may find inspiration. However, for Miami-based furniture designer Rudi Repenning, who embraces the raw and natural qualities of the discarded wood he uses to build his studio furniture, nothing sparks his imagination more. “I like to show the impressions of time on these boards,” he says, referring...

Progress of Bookshelf – Circles

January 23, 2013 / 2096
In my previous post I have showed how I planned the circles and today I came up with a way to sand and make them smoother into exact circles. I rigged myself a contraption that will spin the barrels while I sand them: Here is a short video in how I used it:

Progress of Mahogany Bookshelf

January 18, 2013 / 2158
The wall that the bookshelf will be built on already has a round window. I decided to include the window shape as an element in the overall design of the bookshelf. The shelves will be offset with three different sizes of circles. This design element came with its own challenges. How to shape/form wood into exact precise circles. Here is Step 1- determining the sizes:   Making the circles – Looking a lot like vats: Three Sizes: With my next post I will have the “barrels” smoothed out.

Selecting wood.

January 5, 2013 / 2770
I am currently working on a full wall bookshelf for a local couple that is a writer and a journalist. They needed a whole wall dedicated to a huge collection of books. Part of the process I enjoy the most is selecting the best mahogany I can find. Each board of mahogany has its own fingerprint and personality.
